Local-First Architecture

Atlas Home is a local-first personal AI workspace: your setup lives in your browser by default, not on a server you have to trust first.

What "local-first" means here

Everything you add to Atlas Home — your categories, your favorites, your shortcuts — is saved directly in your browser's local storage first, for instant access. There is no account to create and no sign-in required to try Atlas Home — build your whole Home anonymously, right in the browser, before you ever sign up. Signing in, which requires an active Atlas Home membership, is what turns that local copy into one that follows you to other devices too — see "Where this is headed" below.

Atlas Home is a launcher, not a proxy

Every tool in Atlas Home opens as a normal HTTPS link in your browser, using your existing browser profile, cookies, and whatever login session that provider already has with you. Atlas Home does not embed those services in an iframe, does not use custom URL schemes, and does not route your activity through any intermediary. Opening ChatGPT from Atlas Home is the same as opening ChatGPT from a bookmark — Atlas Home just remembers where it is for you.

What Atlas Home never does

• Store or read your usernames, passwords, or provider session cookies
• Read or intercept OAuth tokens or other authentication tokens for the tools you launch
• Use embedded webviews, iframe login flows, or isolated browser contexts

Where this is headed

Local-first is still the whole story for anyone trying Atlas Home before signing in — that never changes. Once you sign in, Cloud Sync is automatic: signing in is itself the opt-in step, not a separate toggle, and your Home then follows you to any other device you sign into.
